Shortly after I found out that I was pregnant it was time for the triplets birthday. Things have been so crazy around here with Sara getting married and three toddlers running around that I didn’t have time to plan a big party. So it was just Jonathan, Sarah, Wilbur and myself.
For there birthday we redid their room with bunk beds on one side and single bed on the other.
We also got the boys bikes.
Now that the boys are older I am really starting to see some of their individual personalities emerge. Braden and Brandon are natural athletes. They love riding bike and going to the park to play soccer.
Bradley is more intellectual than athletic. He loves playing chess with Jonathan and going to school.
I was worried that Jonathan wouldn’t be excited about the new baby. The boys were finally in school and we were just getting some piece and quite. But I worried for nothing.
“Another child, that’s wonderful,” he said when I told him the news. “I was an only child and had no one after my parents died, I always wanted a big family.”
I had so much more energy with this pregnancy than I did the last time. I am hardly tired at all and with Jonathan at work and the boys in school I am able to spend a lot of time with Chestnut and working in the fields.
The crops were coming in so well that I was making frequent trips to the grocery store to deliver crops. During one delivery I started to experience some pain in my lower back. I remembered having similar back pain hours before I went into labor with the boys. So I calmly called the Jonathan at work and asked him to meet me at the hospital.
While I was in labor my water had not yet broken so I wasn’t nearly as far along as I had been with the triplets. I was in the hospital for 18 hours before the doctor finally gave me the go ahead to push. I gave birth to my forth son, Benjamin who is the spitting image of his father.
Ben is a wonderful baby and both Jonathan and I couldn’t be happier to have another baby in the house.
The day after I home from the hospital Sarah came by to see me and the baby. She also had news of her own to share.
“Congratulations on the newest addition to your family,” she said as she pulled me into a hug. “Wow 4 boys you sure have your hands full,” she laughs.
“Tell me about it,” I say joining in her laughter. “So how is married life treating you?” I ask.
“Great,” she says. “I’m Pregnant!”
“Sarah, that’s amazing. Congratulations! You are going to be a great mother.”
“You really think so?”
“Absolutely! I saw you with the triplets. You were wonderful with them.”
“Thanks, I admit I am a little scared. Hearing you say that makes me feel so much better.”
“If you ever need to talk, ask questions, whatever I am always here for you.”
Ben is a very quiet baby and unlike his brothers sleeps through the night. This has given Jonathan and I opportunities for some alone time together. I feel like we are newlyweds all over again. The other morning we actually made love in the shower of all places.
Soon it was time for yet another birthday. Ben was aging into a toddler and the triplets were going to be teenagers. I can’t believe I have three teenage sons. They are growing up so fast.
Here are the triplets and Ben all grown up. I can’t believe how much Ben looks like Braden when he was that age.
The boys are a great help around the house and farm. Brandon has taken to teaching Ben his skills.
Braden is a natural with Chestnut. I don’t know what I do without them.
Especially as it seems I am once again pregnant. Maybe I will finally have a girl this time.
