After returning home to Appaloosa Plains I started tending to my grandmother’s garden. Somehow being in the fields reminded me of Margot. I missed her.
I tried everything I could think of to get my mind off her. I spent hours working out.
I went on a date with Ebony Hurtado. The Sim Finder app on my phone thought she would be my perfect match. She was a nice enough girl but she wasn’t Margot.
I decided to return to China to explore more and to further enhance my skills at martial arts.
While in China I was invited to participate in several martial arts tournaments. I lost most of them but won a couple. Honestly, winning or loosing didn’t mater to me. I was improving my skills and the physical exercise managed to take my mind off Margot. At least for a little while.
One of my sparing partners was a local girl named Jiao Man Ling. She was really pretty and very nice. We spent some time talking and getting to know each other after the match.
“If you don’t mind me asking are you ok? You seem sad.”
“I’m fine,” I lied.
“Let me guess you are pinning after a girl. I have three brothers, I know that look.”
“No really, I’m fine” I said.
She didn’t say anything. Just gave me this look.
“Ok, Ok,” I said. “Man I feel sorry for your brothers.”
“Fine there is a girl. Her name is Margot and I met her on a recent trip to France.”
“So if she is in France, what are you doing in China?”
“It’s complicated. She is helping with her families business while her father is ill and I have family obligations back in Appaloosa Plains. I am heir to a family legacy.”
“Love is complicated. If it is real love it is worth working and fighting for. Is she worth it?”
After that she left me to my thoughts.
I got on the next plane home. I needed to make arrangements to go to France.
When I arrived at the house I was shocked to find Margot there waiting for me.
