Generation 06.05

For Donavon’s and my sixth month anniversary he asked me out to one of the nicest restaurants in town. When I got to the restaurant he surprised me with flowers. I think he brings me flowers every time we go out. He is so romantic.

“You look beautiful,” he said as he pulled me into his arms and kissed me.

It was a lovely and warm night so we decided to have dinner outside on the patio. While we waited for our food we talked about our day.

After dinner we went across the street to the park and laid out on the grass and gazed at the stars.

Finally it was time to head home but before we headed back Donavon grabbed my hand and said, “Before we go back I have something I would like to talk to you about. More like something I would like to ask you.”

Then before I could even respond he got down on one knee. As he pulled out the ring box I could feel my heart beating in my chest. This was finally happening.

“Fionna Equidae will you make me the happiest man in the world and agree to be my wife.”

“Yes, yes of course I will marry you.”

I am surprised he could get the ring on my finger my hands were shaking so bad.

Once he finally got the ring on my finger I pulled him up off the ground and threw myself into his arms. I can’t wait to marry Donavon. He makes me feel so loved and protected.

When I got home I found Fletcher waiting up for me.

“So how did you date go?” he asked with a mischievous look on his face.

“Did you know he was going to ask me?”

“He asked me for my permission and blessing. So what did you say?”

“I said yes! I can’t believe I am getting married.”

“Donavon and Gloria are wonderful. I will like have Donavon as a dad and Gloria as a sister. Congratulations mom.”

The next day I went and told my dad and Maritza the news. Both were so happy for me.

I am glad I could share the news with my dad and that we can have a good father/daughter relationship. I thought about letting my mom know but I haven’t heard from her since she moved out. I saw something about her comeback tour though on the cover of one of those checkout stand magazines the other day when I was at the store so even if I did get word to her I doubt she would put her tour on hold to come to my wedding.

Even though she is older Gloria still comes to my house after school until her dad gets done at the hospital. Today she threw her arms around me and gave me a big hug.

“I am so happy you are going to be marrying my daddy,” she said.

Gloria isn’t the only one who comes over to my house after school. Ethan and Maritza’s kids do as well. Fletcher and Franklin are the best of friends and they love hanging out in the game room playing pool and video games.

Faith and Fredrick have become good friends with Gloria and they will all do their homework together.

I have been spending all of my spare time planning this wedding. I have put together an inspiration book filled with photos, pressed flowers, recipes, poetry, and more. I can’t wait for my wedding day to arrive.

Finally the wedding day had arrived.

All of our friends and family came. I was especially excited to see my half-brother and sister (Lucas’s kids). We haven’t spent a lot of time together over the years so I was really touched to see them at the wedding.

Donavon had asked Ethan to be his best man since he is the one that introduced us.

We wrote our own vows which has become sort of a tradition for this family.

“Fionna, when I first moved to Appaloosa Plains I didn’t know what to expect. My wife had died and I was left raising my daughter all on my own. The kindness you showed to both of us touched my heart. You are an amazing woman and have been a wonderful mother to both Fletcher and my daughter. She talks about you constantly (crowd laughs) but that’s ok because I found that the more I got to know you the more I wanted to hear everything about you. The best parts of my day were those few minutes each day when I would drop off or pick Gloria up from your house because it meant I got to see you. You brought this light into both of our lives that I thought was out forever. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“Donavon, you are a wonderful man and an amazing father. I was raised primarily by my grandparents and my uncle Ethan. I know they loved me and would have done everything for me. But my parents were not around and sometimes that made me doubt my self worth – made me wonder what made me so unlovable that they would both leave me. I am grateful that my dad and I have had this second chance now later in life and I am even more grateful for the love that you show me each and every day. You make me feel like I am worthy of being loved and when I am with you I feel the happiest I have ever been. You make me feel loved and safe and I can’t wait to spend each and every day of my life loving you and our family in return.”

After the ceremony we had a large reception in the backyard. Their was an amazing cake.

And lots of dancing.

As all the guests were leaving my dad pulled me into a hug. Then he handed me a present. Two tickets for a romantic tropical getaway.

“What’s this?”

“A honeymoon for you and Donavon.”

“This is too much,” I said. “You didn’t need to do this.”

“I wanted to. I wasn’t there for most of your childhood and I just wanted to do something special for you,” he said.

“Thanks, but what about Gloria and Fletcher?”

“I spoke with Ethan and they are going to go stay with him and Maritza. Now get going, there is car waiting to take you to the airport.”

Wow I can’t believe Donavon and I are off to a tropical island for our honeymoon.
