Generation 06.08

Donavon was thrilled when I told him the news. I don’t think I have ever seen him so excited.

Every chance he gets he is feeling the baby, taking to the baby, and listening to the baby. It is really adorable.

Gloria has started dating a boy from school named Rufus Fox. He is a couple of years older than her and I worry that he may be trying to pressure her into more than just kissing. I have heard from some other parents that his a trouble maker, always pulling pranks. I don’t want to tell her not to see him as I am afraid it will only make her want to see more of him.

“Hey Gloria, can I talk to you for a second?” I asked.

“Sure,” she said as she made room for me on the couch.

“I know you recently started dating and have seen you and Rufus making out outside behind the barn a few times.”

“Am I in trouble?”

“No, I trust you to make good decisions. I just wanted to tell you a little story. As you have heard I was raised by my grandparents. I did not meet my father until I was 17 years old and my mother has been absent for most of my life. What you have probably have not heard was that I was born when my mother was only 17 years old.  She got pregnant at 16.”

“16? Really?!”

“My parents met when they were teenagers at a summer music camp. They believed they were in love and so they slept together. After camp they went their separate ways and a few months later my mom realized she was 16 and pregnant. From what my grandmother told me the other kids at school were mean to her and called her names. She was 7 months pregnant when she finally got in touch with Lucas and told him about me. He made her promises to be there but then in the end bailed. He didn’t think he could be a good father and at the time didn’t even want to try. My mom did try for a few years until she got her big break and ran off to live her dream. A dream that didn’t include me. I am telling you this story as a cautionary tail – you and Rufus may think you are in love and he may ask you to go farther than just a few kisses. I just want you to be prepared for the consequences.”

After our talk she pulled me into a big hug and said she appreciated me sharing that story with her. I heard a few days later that she had ended things with Rufus as she wanted to focus more on her scientific pursuits.

It is Fletcher’s birthday. I can’t believe he is going to be a young adult and will be leaving home soon. It seems like just yesterday he was that seven your old little boy who had just lost his adoptive parents. For his birthday he asked me if I could also make a cake for his best friend Julia Stevens. I guess it is also her birthday and they want to celebrate together.

As soon as they had both blown out their candles and aged up Fletcher pulled her in for a kiss. I guess they have loved each other for years but neither one had the courage to say anything.

Fletcher proposed right away and Julia said yes. I thought it was a little early to propose seeing as they haven’t even gone on a date yet but I guess if they really love each other why wait.

Fletcher and Julia got married at city hall the next day. They moved into a house just down the street on the other side of Ethan and Maritza.

Since Fletcher was adopted (twice) he wanted to do the same for some other child. So he and Julia adopted a little boy named Andrew.

A month after they moved in I went by their new house to bring them a house warming gift. Julia was excited to tell me that her and Fletcher are also expecting. I am so happy for them but can’t help but be a little jealous that they were able to get pregnant on the first try when it took Donavon and I months to conceive.

My baby belly is finally visible. Maritza says I am having a boy. I can’t wait to meat him. I love him so much already.
