Generation 07.09

Here is a brief update on what was happening back in Appaloosa Plains while I was in prison.

My sister Gwen had married a man named Roberto. He was actually older than our own father. He past away.

Leaving her alone with a young son, Colin, to raise.

Shortly after Roberto past away Gwen realized she was pregnant.

Since my mom had retired years ago they converted the barn from a daycare center back to it’s original state to create a place for Cupid.

When Gwen went into labor mom took her to the hospital while dad stayed back to watch Colin. While the two were playing the Grimm Reaper came to take dad. He begged for more time.

“Please, my wife and daughter will be back soon with my eighth grandchild. I need more time.”

“I am sorry but it is your time.”

He is buried in the backyard behind the barn near mom’s cat Rembrandt (her first real friend). Some day mom will take that final resting place between them.

Donavon Equidae was 95 years old when he past away. He had seven kids (six girls and one son) and so far eight grand kids (five granddaughters and three grandson’s).

I think the one thing that got mom through dad’s death was her grand kids. My sister Gretchen has a little girl named Marcella and mom loves to go over and see her.

She also has Gwen’s kids Colin and newborn Robert at home. They all give her something to think about besides how much she misses dad.

However, when I got home, months after dad had past, I could tell mom was still devastated.

“Oh, Gavin. I am so happy to see you,” she said as she threw her arms around me and sobbed into my shoulder. “I have missed you so much. Just like I miss your father. I can’t believe he is gone.”

I tried to comfort her. “Everything is going to be ok. I am home now,” I said.

As much as I hope my being home helped my mom, I think Angie’s presence had an even bigger impact. My mom was thrilled to find out she was going to be a grandmother again.

And she loved Angie right away. Angie’s mom had died when she was just a baby and she had been raised by her father and two older brothers so I think she enjoyed the female companionship.

The first morning we were there, mom insisted on making us all a HUGE breakfast.

And that we all sit and eat together. Man had I missed mom’s famous Grape Pancakes.

Angie is a natural with the Gwen’s kids. She feeds them and plays with them.  I can tell she is going to be a great mom.

Mom had some great books on parenting and pregnancy so at night Angie and I pour over them. We have also discussed baby names and our favorite for a girl is Hailey and for a boy Hunter. We can’t wait to meet our little one.

Soon it was both Colin and Robert’s birthday. Mom baked two cakes and invited all of my siblings and their kids over to help celebrate.

It was great seeing my sisters. Gabriella and Grace both gave me big hugs. Gabriella is still single but Grace has two eight year old girls. I can’t believe how time flies.

I had never met Roberto but I would imagine that Colin and Robert are each a perfect blend of their two parents. Colin has Roberto’s skin color but Gwen’s red hair.

Robert has Gwen’s green skin but Robert’s blond hair.

During the party Angie came up to me and said, “Gavin your family is all here what do you think of us having a private ceremony and getting married right here and now.”

“Don’t you want a big wedding?”

“To be honest with how “in the spotlight” my father was I always figured I would elope or have a private wedding. One that wasn’t splashed all over the tabloids. I think everyone that matters to you is here now unless you had some friends from Bridgeport you wanted here.”

I had lost track of all my Bridgeport friends and hadn’t really made any in Lucky Palms. “Don’t you want your father at your wedding?”

“I don’t think he would come anyway. He is working on something back in Lucky Palms that he doesn’t want me involved with. That is why he wanted us to move back here. I would really like to do this today. I want to be married before our child is born.”

So I called all over my family over and right then and there Angie and I exchanged rings and got married.

“Angie, while I love my family I always had this desire to be the center of attention. I wanted to be a celebrity so that all eyes would be on me. But that all changed the moment I met you. For the first time I didn’t care what people thought of me, I only cared for how you saw me. The day you agreed to by my wife was one of the happiest moments of my life. Second only to the day you told me we were going to have a baby. I love you so much.”

“Gavin, when I came to Bridgeport on vacation I never thought I would meet the love of my life. In fact, I never thought I would fall in love, get married, or have a family. Most men are afraid of my father and turn tail and run as soon as they find out who he is. But when you found out you didn’t care. You even stood up to him and told him you would marry me with or without his blessing. I am so proud of you and can’t wait to start our life together.”

Of course we had to kiss to seal the deal.

The next morning Angie was heading down to breakfast when her water broke.

And her contractions started.

I of course panicked. But so did mom and she gave birth to six kids.

After I calmed down, I managed to get Angie to the hospital.

Where she gave birth to not one but two beautiful baby girls. We had already picked out the name Hailey for a daughter but had to come up with a second name on the spot.

We both agreed that Hannah was perfect.

After putting the girls into their cribs I pulled Angie in for a big kiss. She has given me the most wonderful gift. I just love my family.
